The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's national average rate is even lower at 0.08 percent, making our top savings rate 13 times the FDIC average.

The online bank offering the best savings rates on our rate list is CIT Bank. The bank's current savings account rates for account balances of at least $25,000 is 1.04 percent with an APY of 1.05 percent. CIT Bank savings rates for account balances of less than $25,000 still earn a respectable rate of 0.90 percent which is higher than Bankrate's national rate and more than 11 times the FDIC average rate.
