Mortgage rates dropped in the latest mortgage survey released this morning. The average mortgage contract rate for 30 year mortgages is down this week according to the most recent Weekly Applications Survey released by the Mortgage Bankers Association. 30 year mortgage rates are averaging 4.83 percent for the week ending May 14, 2010, down from the previous week's average mortgage rate of 4.96 percent. Mortgage discount points averaged 1.08 points, an increase from the prior week’s average of 0.91 points.
Hooray! A deal was finally done after we technically headed over the cliff, despite the nasty exchanges between Senator Harry Reid and House Leader John Boehner. The equity markets are rallying, bond yields are higher, will CD rates move higher as well? Unfortunately, not any time soon since Ben Bernanke and company at the Federal Reserve plan to keep the Fed funds rate at zero percent until mid-2015.
Mortgage rates dropped to new all-time lows in the Mortgage Bankers Association's Weekly Mortgage Application Survey. Since the MBA's report mortgage rates todays have moved higher again as 10 year bond yields increased from a low of 1.43 percent on Friday to 1.65 percent yesterday. As a result current mortgage rates on 30 year loans are averaging 3.77 percent today, an increase from Friday's low of 3.70 percent.
