Historically low mortgage interest rates are helping the housing market recover, driving home sales higher and home prices higher in a good part of the U.S.. 15-year fixed mortgage rates were also up slightly this past week.
Mortgage rates are higher today Friday, October 28, 2011,  as mortgage lenders increase rates in response to higher bond yields. Current mortgage rates on 30 year fixed conforming loans are averaging 4.20%, an increase from yesterday’s average 30 year mortgage rate of 4.12%. Today's mortgage rates on 15 year fixed conventional loans are also higher averaging 3.47%, up from yesterday’s average 15 year mortgage rate of 3.43%.
Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PenFed) recently increased the rate they are paying on their 12 month share certificate (certificate of deposit). The old share rate (CD rate) was under 1.00%, the new rate is 1.15% with an APY of 1.16%. PenFed's 1 year rate tops our list of the best national CD rates.
