Mortgage rates are sharply higher this week, following U.S. Treasury yields higher. Average 30 year mortgage rates increased almost 30 basis points since the election. 30 year rates are up from 3.49 percent last week before the election to 3.77 percent today.

weekly-CD-rates-June-1-2009CD rates were down again this past week. The average bank CD rate for all CD terms declined to new lows. The one bright spot is the declines were small, some CD terms declined fractionally. Bond prices drove mortgage rates up considerably this week, unfortunately CD rates didn't follow the trend.
Several banks lowered CD rates on 12 month certificates of deposit over the past several weeks as 2012 comes to an end. The highest CD rates on our 12 month rate list just two weeks ago were at 1.10 percent (APY 1.11%), now the best CD rates on our 12 month rates list are 5 basis points less at 1.05 percent (APY 1.06%). The current national average 12 month CD rate is lower averaging 0.71 percent.
