Late last week 10 year bond yields hit a low of 2.86%, this sent mortgage rates lower over the weekend. Current conforming 30 year mortgage rates are averaging 4.43%, down from last week's average 30 year mortgage rate of 4.46%. Current 15 year conventional mortgage rates are averaging 3.69%, a decrease from the previous week's average 15 year mortgage rate of 3.71%.
Last Friday's employment report which was stronger than expected so mortgage rates and bond rates are slightly higher this week as a result. 10 year bond yields moved up from 2.68 percent a week ago Monday to 2.80 percent on Friday after February's nonfarm payroll report was released. During that time, average 30 year mortgage rates increased 11 basis points from 4.24 percent to the current average of 4.35 percent.
Bond rates and mortgage rates continue to drift lower this week, making this the second consecutive week average mortgage rates moved lower. Conforming 5/1 adjustable mortgage rates today are averaging 3.54 percent, a decline from last week's average 5 year adjustable rate of 3.69 percent.
