Thinking about opening a new savings account or did you forget about a savings account you had? Besides searching for the best savings rates when opening an account, you should also read the fine print which can contain fees, especially for inactive accounts. These days you won't get rich earning interest on a savings account but you also don't want your savings account to cost you money either.
Mortgage rates were slightly higher in the last mortgage survey released this morning. Mortgage rates have increased considerably since the end of November. In the Mortgage Bankers Association's Weekly Mortgage Rate Survey the average contract mortgage rate on 30 year home mortgage loans increased to 4.85 percent for the week ending December 17, 2010, up from the previous week’s average year mortgage rate of 4.84 percent. 30 year mortgage rates have increased for six consecutive weeks. Average mortgage discount points on 30 year home mortgage loans decreased to 0.96 points, down from the prior week’s average of 1.33 points.
money-market-account-savings-accounts-rates-july-08-2009Money market account and savings account rates were down this past week. The decline in average interest rates was small. Savings account rates and money market account rates will stay low for the foreseeable future. We anticipate rates increasing by the end of 2009 or early into 2010 when the economy recovers and rates start going up.
