Explore Other Rate DealsAs expected, mortgage rates are were driven higher this week because of higher bond yields. 15 year conforming mortgage rates are averaging 3.20 percent, up 5 basis points from last week's average of 3.15 percent. Historically speaking, current mortgage rates are still very low. Back in 2007, average 15 year rates were as high as 6.36 percent, more than double the current rate.
Mortgage rates made new lows for 2011 as falling bond yields, a slowing economy and low inflation are all driving interest rates lower. Today's 30 year mortgage rates are averaging 4.41%, down from yesterday’s average 30 year mortgage rate of 4.43%.15 year mortgage rates today are averaging 3.64%, down from yesterday’s average 15 year mortgage rate of 3.69%.
Mortgage rates increased and mortgage loan applications fell in the latest mortgage survey. Average mortgage rates are at the highest level in a month. In the weekly Mortgage Application Survey released by the Mortgage Bankers Association the average contract rate on 30 year mortgage loans increased to 4.69% with 0.90 mortgage points. The average mortgage rate the prior week was 4.46% with 1.19 mortgage points.
