Average long term fixed mortgage rates are mostly lower in our weekly mortgage rate survey. No big moves in long term rates either higher or lower which was expected since U.S. Treasury yields haven't moved much this past week. The biggest increase in short term rates was on 1 year conforming adjustable mortgage loan rates. 1 year conforming ARMs increased 44 basis points to 3.39%.
For the second consecutive week mortgage rates moved higher in Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey. Higher bond yields are sending mortgage rates today higher as well. Bond yields which hit an all-time record low of of 1.39 percent on July 24, 2012, are up 8 basis points to 1.72 percent.
Online savings rates, money market rates, and certificate of deposit rates from online banks continue to move higher in 2017. A few months ago we reported that the highest savings rate was at 1.30 percent. Now the top rate is 10 basis points higher, at 1.40 percent.
