Average mortgage rates today declined today but the downtrend will be short lived since U.S. Treasury yields are 7 basis points higher today. Current mortgage rates on 30 year loans are averaging 3.56 percent, down from an average 30 year mortgage rate of 3.61 percent and just above an all-time record low of 3.55 percent.
Today's mortgage rates which are at record lows are finally helping the housing market recover. The Federal Housing Finance Agency said that home prices increased 0.8 percent on a on a seasonally adjusted basis in May, following a revised 0.7% increase in April.
Average mortgage rates today and bond yields are lower on investor concerns about the bailout of Spain's banks. The bailout package announced over the weekend didn't do much to alleviate investor concerns about the debt problems in the European Union. As a result bond yields and U.S. stock market indices declined.
