Mortgage rates are higher in the latest mortgage survey released this week by Freddie Mac. The average conforming fixed 30 year mortgage rate is at 5.21 percent for the week ending April 8, 2010 up from the prior week's average conforming mortgage rate of 5.08 percent. This week's increase pushed 30 year mortgage rates to the highest level in eight months. Mortgage discount points averaged 0.6 points, up from last week's average of 0.7 points.
Mortgage rates and mortgage applications fell in this week's mortgage survey. In the weekly Mortgage Application Survey released by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). The average contract rate on 30 year mortgage loans decreased to 4.55% with 0.99 mortgage discount points. The average contract mortgage rate the previous week was 4.69% with 0.90 mortgage points. Mortgage applications decreased 5.1 percent from one week earlier.
