fdic-deposit-insurance-coverage-limits-raisedThe Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation recently raised insurance limits on all deposit accounts to help calm the credit and financial markets. The new limits are only temporary but the limits have been raised from $100,000 to $250,000 for individual accounts. Deposit accounts include checking accounts, savings accounts, money market deposit accounts and certificates of deposit (CDs).
Low mortgage rates and home prices are helping the housing market recover. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported existing home sales rose 8.3% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.14 million in the first quarter of 2011. Another positive sign the median existing single-family home price rose in 34 out of 153 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) according to the NAR.
Mortgage rates were mixed in the most recent Primary Mortgage Market Survey released this morning by Freddie Mac. 30 year fixed home mortgage rates and 15 year fixed home mortgage rates were unchanged for week ending September 23, 2010. 15 year mortgage interest rates are still at a record low set last week. Adjustable mortgage rates were mixed for the week ending September 23, 2010. 5 year adjustable home mortgage rates were slightly lower and 1 year home adjustable home mortgage rates were slightly higher.
